Conference: 17th EIONET Air Quality workshop
The main focus this year will be the implementation and the review of the
European Union’s air quality legislation. The Commission Implementing Decision
of 12 December 2011 lays down the rules for Directives 2004/107/EC and
2008/50/EC. One main objective of the workshop is to inform the EIONET Air
Quality Community about the progress and experiences with a new electronic
(e-reporting) system to report measured and modelled air quality data. The
Commission has established a group of countries to support the transition to
the new e-reporting system, which is under development at EEA and involves in
2012 15 EU Member States in a pilot testing phase
(http://www.eionet.europa.eu/aqportal/intro). The other main focus of the
workshop is the implementation of the EU air quality legislation on the local
level (cities). In June 2011, Commissioner Potočnik invited the European
Commission’s Directorate General for Environment (DG ENV) and the EEA to
explore an enhanced EEA role in support of EU environment policy
implementation, by way of pilots on air and waste. The so-called Air
Implementation Pilot has subsequently been established, a joint DG ENV and EEA
project. At the workshop we wish to inform the Community about the status of
the project and discuss first results of the initiative
(http://projects.eionet.europa.eu/air-implementation-pilot/.).

Meeting: EIONET Noise Workshop on Data Reporting 2012
from 09:00 to 17:00 - This workshop is open to all Eionet National Reference
Centres for Noise and will aim to remind you about the Electronic Noise Data
Reporting Mechanism (ENDRM) first introduced in 2007and now fully updated and
improved to take account of upcoming data reporting obligations under the
Environmental Noise Directive. The ENDRM is now fully integrated into the
Reportnet e-reporting system which is the stated method of reporting preferred
by the Commission. In particular, the workshop will focus upon the need to
deliver the second round of noise maps and associated data before the
Directive deadline of 30th December 2012. So, to ensure you are fully ready
and prepared for delivering noise data to the standard required, please
reserve the workshop date of 26th March in your diary.

Meeting: Estimating and reporting uncertainty in road transport emissions - greenhouse gases and air pollutants
The European Environment Agency (EEA), together with the European Commission's
Joint Research Centre (JRC), hosted a workshop on uncertainties in the
estimation and reporting of emissions from the road transport sector. The
workshop was for compilers of national road transport GHG and air pollutant
emission inventories as well as road transport emission modellers. Specific
objectives of the workshop included: a) understanding how uncertainty should
be considered and reported under EU & international GHG and air pollutant
reporting requirements; b) identifying areas where more can be done to reduce
uncertainty, both in methods and in activity data; c) hearing best practice
examples of quantifying uncertainty in existing road transport emission
inventories; and d) implications of model and data revisions for policy-
makers.

and the Eionet have agreed to improve reporting of the Eionet priority data
flows as one of the short term objectives for implementing the Shared
Environmental Information System (SEIS). This technical workshop is part of
the improvement programme. It provides opportunity for clarification of
issues, discussions and training.

The target participants are those making national assessments required by the
air quality legislation.

Please sign-up for the workshop using your Eionet password. This is the option
labelled as "Signup using your LDAP account"

Conference: Eionet workshop on Quality control and validation of land cover data
The objective of the workshop is to discuss quality control and validation
issues of the European CLC2006 and the high resolution layers being produced
in the frame of GMES Land FTSP, will take place on 12 & 13 November at the EEA
premises in Copenhagen.

This workshop was identified as one of the milestones included in WP5 -
Quality control and validation - of EEA Implementation Plan GMES Land FTSP.

The aim of the workshop is to start the discussion regarding quality assurance
and quality control (QA/QC) issues in the context of the Corine Land Cover
(CLC) 2006 update and the high resolution layers since both require specific
and innovative approaches for QA and QC. The expected result is an agreed
methodology on validation at European level of the GMES Land.

Conference: Reportnet within SEIS
Within the context of the recent discussions about the implementation of a
shared environmental information system for Europe (SEIS), further enhancement
of the Reportnet tools is needed to better support legal compliance as well as
state of the environment reporting.

The European Commission is planning to publish a Communication by the end of
2007 to make the case for SEIS as the overall political and conceptual
framework into which relevant existing activities and new initiatives (i.e.
INSPIRE, GMES, i2010) will fit for improving data sharing and access to
environmental information. Increased use of reporting tools such as Reportnet
will be promoted. Reportnet tools were initially used for reporting
environmental data to EEA, but is now also hosting more national reporting as
well as Commission's environmental reporting information.

Last technical discussion around Reportnet developments with Eionet i.e. NRCs
on Information Systems took place in 2005in Brno
([http://www.enviroinfo2005.org/][1]).
