| The second in a series of Synthesis Reports (SR) produced by FP7 URBAN-NEXUS project is already available on the internet. Each SR will address a different theme; this one is highlighting the importance and urgency of integrating health and quality of life in urban areas. This report considers research, mainly European, background material from a variety of sources including existing research evidence, and case studies from cities and projects results undertaken at EU level. The information was collected from the URBAN-NEXUS consortium, the strategic partners and a wider network of contacts. The SR on Health and Quality of Life was shaped by the SGR INTERFASE, research group of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and member of the FP7 URBAN-NEXUS consortium. This report should serve as basis to inform an evolving dialogue, fostering integrated approaches to urban sustainability that become intrinsic to all decision-making processes and partnership activities related to health and quality of life , and linking it with the other priority research areas being addressed in the URBAN-NEXUS project (http://www.urban-nexus.eu/). | We are pleased to announce the MS.MONINA Summer School 2012 “EO-based biodiversity monitoring: From concepts to products” which will take place in Málaga (Spain) from 9th to 14th of July 2012. The event is organized within the framework of the FP7 project MS.MONINA “Multi-scale Service for Monitoring NATURA 2000 Habitats of European Community Interest” (www.ms-monina.eu). Scientists, practitioners and students are invited to participate to discuss recent developments in the field of biodiversity monitoring and the potential of Earth observation (EO) technology. Online registration will be possible from April 1 until June 1, 2012. Considering the general and specific objectives, the Summer School will be open to service providers and users / practitioners as well as graduate and post-graduate scientists, with backgrounds in ecology, biodiversity and habitat research and / or remote sensing. The common ground will be the interest in deepening the knowledge and discussing experiences in biodiversity monitoring in an international and trans-disciplinary setting. In this sense, we strongly encourage academia, industry and administration to participate in the Summer School as it is meant to be a meeting point for professionals and researchers dealing with monitoring and habitat management in their projects and daily work.
