New ETCs

In its 27th meeting on 29 November 2000, the EEA Management Board designated the lead organizations for four new European Topic Centres (ETC) for the next three years.

The new ETCs are led by:

  1. WRc plc (UK) is designated to lead the topic centre on Water
  2. RIVM (the Netherlands) is designated to lead the topic centre on Air and Climate Change
  3. MNHN (France) is designated to lead the topic centre on Nature Protection and Biodiversity
  4. Danish EPA/EPA City of Copenhagen (Denmark) is designated to lead the topic centre on Waste and Material Flows.

For the ETC on Terrestrial Environment new proposals were requested. Six candidates for new lead organisations were designated by the NFPs during the application period that ended on 30 November.

The technical annexes will be prepared by the Agency staff in consultation with the consortia up to beginning January 2001 and will be distributed to the board and NFPs by 15 January for comments. The annexes will be finalised at the NFP/EIONET meeting on 5 February and submitted to the bureau at its meeting on 7 February for approval of the financial commitment.
