Sites such as my.netscape.com and my.userland.com have invented a way to integrate information such as headlines from other sites to build a personalised webpage for the user.
The technology is called Rich Site Summary (RSS) and is an XML-formatted version of whatever the site owner wants to publish - typically announcements. Sites such a my.netscape.com downloads the information on an daily basis, formats it to the house style and displays it in a box on the user's webpage.
EIONET has used this technology for several months to retrieve and display news and FAQs from the NMC. We can do it for any site, that has an RSS file to offer. As RSS is also a part of the Yihaw product, any EIONET node that uses Yihaw can potentially get their announcements listed at the EIONET main website - and elsewhere. Likewise, if you install the SiteSummary product in your own Zope server, you can grab the EIONET headlines and display them on your own site.
We have added a button under the announcements panel on the frontpage. It will set up the EIONET announcements on my.netscape.com as a channel. If you want to add the EIONET news to another website add this url: http://www.eionet.europa.eu/eea.rss. If you want news from NMC use this URL: http://nmc.eionet.europa.eu/news.rss and FAQs have this URL: http://nmc.eionet.eu.int/faq/last5.rss If you use Internet Explorer 5.0 you can click on them and see directly what the content is.
