Expiration of Eionet passwords

Released on 2018-01-30 by: Eionet helpdesk

The EEA Information Security Office has decided to limit the time span of the validity of Eionet passwords and to deactivate unused Eionet accounts. This measure will increase the security and data protection of the Eionet. The new data protection regulation requires more measures to guarantee privacy in information systems and the right to be forgotten.

Eionet account holders will have to change their passwords every 12 months. If the Eionet user does not change the password within 13 months after the password has expired, the account will be deactivated and all unnecessary information on the account holder be deleted.

Passwords that have not been changed since June 2017 will be expired over the next two months. When this happens to you, then you won't be able to login, but you can change your password via the password reset service. The new password must be at least 8 characters and you can't use the same password again. To be able to use password reset your email address in the Eionet directory must be current.

To avoid surprises you can change your password now.
