OpenDocument (ODF) in the European Union
- 29 Jan 2010: Danish state administrations to use ODF. The Danish parliament and the Danish minister for Science this morning agreed that the Danish state administrations should use open standards, including the Open Document Format (ODF), starting on 1 April 2011.
- 2 Dec 2008: German IT-council adopts ODF. German federal agencies will be able to receive, read, send and edit ODF documents.
- 4 Aug 2008: The Swedish Standards Institute has formally approved ODF 1.0 as a national standard SS-ISO/IEC 26300:2008
- 8 Apr 2008: Croatia standards institute approves ODF
- 19 Dec 2007: Norway mandates open document formats including OpenDocument, HTML and PDF.
- 17 Sep 2007: Netherlands: Verplicht gebruik open standaarden bij overheid. (Mandatory use of open standards in government. The deadline is January 2009. )
- 26 Jan 2007: OpenDocument is now a standard in Italy.
- 6 Dec 2006: PEGCSO issues Conclusions and Recommendations on Open Document Exchange Formats
- 5 Oct 2006: All French government publications should be made available in OpenDocument Format (ODF), according to a report commissioned by the French prime minister. The recommendation in PDF (French), Local copy
- 1 Aug 2006: Spanish region of Extremadura completely switches to Linux and OpenDocument
- 12 July 2006: Croatian government releases OS policy. The Croation government Open source software policy (PDF) in English.

- 23 June 2006: Belgian government chooses OpenDocument
- 23 May 2006: Denmark trials Open Standards Helge Sander, Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation in Denmark is promising that all publications on the ministry homepage will be available in ODF. This should be done not later than 1 September. [Senest første september er alle publikationer og andre skriftlige dokumenter på Videnskabsministeriets hjemmeside tilgængelige i tekstformatet OpenDocument (ODF).]

Eionet support
EEA has started to implement the OpenDocument format in all systems where MS-Office formats are generated or parsed. Currently you can generate an OpenDocument Spreadsheet template from DataDictionary where MS-Excel is used for reporting. On CDR, when MS-Excel is to be converted into XML, then you can also convert OpenDocument Spreadsheets. This is e.g. used in the Monthly Ozone dataflow. Additionally, when XML files have conversions to MS-Excel, they also have conversions to ODF Spreadsheets.
Templates
Download the template you need. Open the relevant application, select File >Templates >Organize... Click on My Templates (For presentation templates use Presentation Backgrounds), then click on Commands > Import Template... to add it to your own template collection.
