Iulian Petchesi

These documents were prepared in support to a ‘review seminar’ for the Mediterranean region, as part of the Natura 2000 Biogeographical process. This process aims at facilitating exchanges among Member States on measures necessary to achieving favourable conservation status of species and habitats of Community interest, with special attention to the management and coherence of the Natura 2000 network. It involves Member States, key user groups, NGOs and independent experts from a same biogeographical region or marine region. The document provides 1) an updated assessment and scoring of Alpine habitats which had been selected for priority discussion during the first Mediterranean seminar in 2014, 2) an explanation on a proposed methodology to identify “Low hanging Fruits” habitats ( i.e. habitats for which an improvement of the conservation status could be reached rapidly, as well as results of testing the methodology in the Mediterranean region, 3) descriptive fact-sheets for the habitats selected as “Low Hanging fruits” habitats (in a separate document).
