NRC on Waste

Profile 2018 - 2020

Rationale

NRCs will support and work with the EEA in its work on waste in the context of the aim to move towards a circular economy where ultimately nothing is wasted.  This includes a strong focus on sharing information, experience and knowledge in implementation of the EU waste legislation.  It also includes national efforts and programmes on waste prevention and using waste as a resource, and the EEA review of waste prevention programmes in Eionet countries.  Finally, EEA and NRC work will address modelling of future waste amounts and management and indicators (primarily based on Eurostat data supplemented with national data where needed) and integrated assessments.

Relations with NRCs on resource efficient economy and the environment (including SCP) will be ensured through joint sharing of information, webinars etc.  Sustainable waste and materials management and waste prevention are an integrated part of efforts to move towards a resource efficient economy in Europe.
