NRC on Water quantity

Profile 2018 - 2020

This NRC covers aspects of water scarcity and droughts, water abstractions and use by sectors and water management in relation to water resources.  The NRC should also cover aspects of flood risk, flood management and links to climate change adaptation.

Water resources are under pressure in many parts of Europe.  Agriculture, energy production, industry, public water supply and ecosystems are all important, and all competing for this limited resource.  The main challenge in managing water resources is to meet the needs of the different water users, while leaving enough water in the environment to conserve freshwater ecosystems.
