Summary
This annual technical paper presents the results of the reporting cycle of the meta information and air quality measurement data for 2011 that have been exchanged among the 27 EU Member States (MS) and the Commission. Besides the EU Member States, other member and cooperating countries of the EEA, which include EU (potential) candidate countries and EFTA countries, also follow this reporting procedure. The content of AirBase (version 7) is publicly available through EEA website. More information on AirBase can be found on the ETC/ACM website.

A total of 38 countries have provided 2011 air quality data. As in preceding years, a large number of time series have been transmitted, covering, for example, sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), particulate matter (PM10, PM2.5), ozone (O3), carbon monoxide (CO) and benzene (C6H6). In an increasing degree also Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC), Heavy Metals (HM) and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH) have been transmitted. A few countries also delivered PM2.5 speciation concentrations (PM2.5_spec).

Almost all countries that updated their meta information used the Air Quality Data Exchange Module (AQ-DEM) which is made available for this purpose by the ETC/ACM.

An overview of the state of the air quality for selected pollutants in 2011 will be provided in the EEA Air quality report (EEA, 2013, in prep.).
