ETC/BD Report 12/2018: Fact sheets on ecosystem condition

01 Dec 2018

Sigfus Bjarnason

In 2017 and 2018 the European Topic Centre for Biological Diversity (ETC/BD) worked on exploring functional relationships between ecosystem condition and ecosystem services, based on a systematic review of scientific studies (100 scientific studies for 10 different services). This exercise has led to the creation of a series of fact sheets, which explore the ways how ecosystem condition can be meaningfully defined and measured in the main terrestrial ecosystem types. The links identified between ecosystem condition and services can provide solid and objective arguments for the conservation / restoration of ecosystems. This way this analysis can contribute to the implementation of further European and global biodiversity targets, and can support the mainstreaming of biodiversity into further policy domains.
